If you are a busy mom just like me, you know how it feels to think that you are doing so much yet you accomplish so little. It can really be very exhausting just thinking about how to joggle and stretch your time to cater to everything that needs to be done in a day. Sometimes, I feel that 24 hours is not enough to finish everything ahead of me. But as I progress in life, I realized that finding time is not enough. In order to be productive and intentional in what I am doing, I need to make time for every task at hand as a wife, mom of two, daughter, sister, friend, connect leader, employee, blogger, mompreneur, home manager, financial manager and queen of our household. I know that it is such a great honor and joy to be in all of these roles every day but let us just be honest that there are also times that as human beings these can become so overwhelming and stressful for us.
For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. – Ecclesiastes 3:1
Thus, I am sharing with you today seven effective time management tips that help me lessen the stress and get things done.
7 Practical Time Management Tips
Organize
Get yourself a nice planner wherein you can assess your time, write your to-dos and schedule your events and activities. Plan ahead and think about how you can lessen the time you will spend on each task. Don’t forget to be creative along the process.
Prioritize
Assess and categorize your to-dos. Think of what you can prioritize. As for me, I use the Eisenhower Matrix. Dwight Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States from 1953 until 1961. As President, he had to make decisions continuously about which of the many tasks he should focus on each day. He is famous for this time management quote:
What is important is seldom not urgent and what is urgent is seldom important. – Dwight Eisenhower
Dwight created the Eisenhower Matrix for organizing your tasks by urgency and importance.
So remember to pick your battles and prioritize.
Multi-task
There are things that need our focus but there are also things that we can do at the same time. Women are multi-taskers. We can do multiple tasks at a time. Think of the things or tasks that you can multi-task effectively. But remember that it is not good also to do it on everything. There are certain tasks that require complete focus. Decide on what to multi-task and what to completely focus on to avoid overwhelm.
Make use of all available means
Check all your bills and see if you can pay them online so there is no need for you to spend your time going out from the house to pay the merchants. You can also buy kinds of stuff from online stores which offer good deals and services. This can save you time as well. Enroll your electricity, water, telephone, internet, and other bills to auto debit so you will save time and effort in paying them.
Get help
If you can afford to get a house help, get one. Effectively delegate the other household chores to your house help so you can spend more time with your spouse and kids. You can also ask for help from your spouse or children to de-load you from some of the tasks. I am sure that they will all be happy to help you. Just don’t forget to ask for their help.
6. Sow time
Instead of stressing about all the mountainous tasks that need to be done in a short period of time, sow time. If we sow time, we shall also reap time. We sow our time when we spend it doing God’s works. When we spend our time with people in need, we sow our time. I know that it sounds illogical but the Bible promises in Galatians:
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” – Galatians 6:7
Pray
I love praying when I feel stressed. It is in prayer that I receive instructions and supernatural help to overcome stress. After praying, I feel refreshed in the thought that I am surrendering everything that bothers me to God and trusting Him to help me. That no matter what, He will never leave me nor forsake me in my time of need. In Matthew 21:22, it says, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” So go ahead, ask God for wisdom on how to make time. Every promise he has made is always YES in Christ Jesus.
So, these are the things I do in order to make time for everything. How about you? Maybe you have something that you want to share with us regarding how to manage and make time for everything. Feel free to leave a comment. We also love to learn from you.
