12 Biblical Ways to Prosper in Life and in Business

How to prosper in life and in business? That is the question that most of us are asking, myself included. During these past few days, my devotion or quiet time was spent studying the book of Proverbs. Thank God,I came across the verses that answer the said question. So that is why, today I am going to share with you what the bible says on how to prosper in life and in business.

What is prosperity

It is not only about financial success but having lots of money is just part of it. So what is really the meaning of prosperity? I like the definition that Wikipedia gave.

Prosperity is the state of flourishing, thriving, good fortune or successful social status. It often encompasses wealth but also includes other factors which can be independent of wealth to varying degrees, such as happiness, growth (emotionally and spiritually) and health. – Wikipedia

In short, prosperity is not all about  money. It is actually a state of living a rich and full life that Jesus gave us when he came and died for us.

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.- John 10:10

How to prosper

1. Always be honesty in every thing

Being honest is making that decision to free yourself from deceit and untruthfulness. When you are honest, people will want to work with you or conduct business with you because they know that you are sincere in what you do and that they can trust you.

The Lord detests the use of dishonest scales, but he delights in accurate weights. -Proverbs 11:1

2. Walk in integrity

Brian Tracy said that to walk in integrity is doing the right thing because you know that it is the right thing to do. Your business ethics will help you keep your word and be known as a person who can be trusted at all times, no matter what the circumstances are.

In life and in business a good name or reputation is an asset to your work and sales.

The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. – Proverbs 11:3

3. Be humble

Humility is not about thinking less about ourselves but it is about thinking of ourselves less. – Rick Warren

It means that you are not putting yourself in a position higher than others. You don’t look up to or look down on people. You look at people straight in the eye because God created us all equal in His sight. Just like me, you are imperfect and a work in progress by the grace of God. You must admit the areas in your life or business that you need help and progress because all of us have them. And if someone help you in those areas, don’t forget to show them your gratitude.

Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the LORD, and humility comes before honor.- Proverbs 15:33

4. Live Right

To live right is to live a lifestyle pleasing to God. The bible teaches us on how to live our life and conduct our business everyday. If we truly believe in Jesus, we will follow His Word. Our obedience to God’s Word brings blessings and prosperity; a proof that we are really followers of Christ.

Stay on the path that the LORD your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy.- Deuteronomy 5:33

5. Seek God

Seeking God is seeking His presence. It is spending time to know Him more. My devotion or quiet time is my favorite time of the day. When I wake up early in the morning each day, I receive instructions from God on the things that I need guidance through reading His Word. Knowing that He loves me , He will never leave me and He will help me makes me feel refreshed and ready for the busy schedule ahead of me.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. – Matthew 6:33

6. Seek wisdom

Wise decision can prevent difficult situation to develop or getting worst. That is why it is very important for us to seek wisdom every day of our lives in order for us to make right decisions. The bible has lots of wisdom in store for those who seek it. My favorite book of wisdom is the book of Proverbs. I read one chapter each day.

If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer. – Proverbs 9:12

7. Find mentors

To prosper in life and in business, finding the right mentor is vital. A mentor is an experienced and trusted adviser who is willing to spend time in sharing his expertise and experience for the betterment of his mentee. You will benefit from learning from someone who has already reached the point where you are trying to get to. They know and understand all the sacrifices that you need to make, the dangers that need to be avoided and the challenges that can arise along the way.

When making a decision, most of the time, you can overcome uncertainty and doubt if you have someone you trust and respect to back you up.

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. – Proverbs 15:22

8. Be kind

Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate. But the question is why do you need to be kind if the world around you is unkind? Well, if you want to reap good things, you must sow good things as well. Doing good things to others without expectations will make you feel good. Added to that, it is contagious that you want to pass it on to others. Besides, you really don’t know what others are going through. Make other’s life easier by being kind to them.

Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you. – Proverbs 11:17

9. Give generously

There is a saying that says: “it is better to give than to receive”. Yes, it is true because in giving more, you receive more.  It gives your life a sense of purpose. You can also feel a different sense of happiness when you know that you are helping others who are in need. God will pour out so much blessings on you because you are also blessing His other children.

Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. – Proverbs 11:24-25

10. Think positive

Positive thinking is one way of attracting prosperity into your life. The bible says in Proverbs 4:23 that be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life. Your mind is powerful that is why it is important that you feed it with positive thoughts only.

If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!- Proverbs 11:27

11. Work hard

Work is very important because God will bless the work of our hands. If we don’t work, there is nothing than God can bless. When you work hard and smart, you get things done. And because of this you will stand out from the crowd because diligent people most of the time if not always are get noticed . They are also the ones who get new opportunities for promotion, increase and profit.

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. – Proverbs 14: 23

12. Be organized

Being organized enables you to make use of your time, effort and resources wisely. You are not only effective but you are also efficient when you are organized. You get more things done in a day without overwhelming yourself because you have your own established system on how things are done. In life and in business, this is very important.

She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work for her servant girls. She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard.  – Proverbs 31:15-16
